This little bowl was turned from reclaimed Bismark Street Yew, a wood with quite a history, including its use in making medieval English longbows.
As I started turning, the grain suggested a somewhat cauldron-like shape, with a rounded belly and a flared rim. Those curves helped bring out the patterns in the wood, particularly on the inside. I think the grain and the shape worked together pretty well on this one!
At just 5 inches across, it's a nice little decorative bowl that can sit on a table or shelf and let the wood do the showing off.
